Cedar
Cedar is an excellent wood for Gates—it doesn’t warp, shrink, or split, even up to a decade after installation. It can last up to 30 years, and comes with a beautiful reddish appearance. It even has that wonderful cedar smell you love, and naturally repels insects.
Hardwood
Hardwood options are stronger than cedar, lasting between 30 and 50 years. These have much greater rot and mold resistance than even the durable cedar, hardwood is equally insect-repellent and requires little in the way of maintenance.
